When rendering is fast and fun
This quote seems tailor-made for Angelo Isenia, a freelance motion/graphic designer with a focus on loopable motion design, head of the Netherlands-based creative studio Dvizion.
Enthusiastic about his work, Angelo shared with us his experience with real-time rendering, explaining how working with U-Render has made his job fast and fun.
Tell us about yourself and your background.
Angelo: I work specifically in the Entertainment Industry which includes clubs, DJs and festivals. I graduated at an Art College (HKU) in the Netherlands and started VJ’ing towards the end. A good friend of mine introduced me into the scene where I worked at a company making content for festivals and also doing live video mixing for festivals.
The last 6 years I have been heavily touring with Djs around the world. It’s a niche market but really enjoyable where you can see your creations live on a big screen for thousands of party-people to see.
For which projects are you using U-Render?
Angelo: I mostly use U-Render as tool to create video content loops. We usually make pretty long loops and having a fast renderer is crucial.
How did you end up choosing real-time rendering?
Angelo: Long rendering times and big costs to set up a render farm. Third would be the learning curve. I chose U-Render because it’s fast, and it uses the same texture material as Cinema 4D, so there wasn’t a big learning curve at the end.
In our field of work we mainly make abstract content. It has to look nice and stylish, we don’t seek realism (most of the time). So U-Render fitted right up my alley because it works natively inside Cinema4D.
Best U-Render feature?
Angelo: For me, it has to be Screen Space Reflections combined with HDRI, Glow and Ambient Occlusion. Just using some simple principles makes the scene so much better. As I mentioned, it doesn’t have to look real, just wonderful.
How would you describe working in real-time?
Angelo: FUN. For me the most positive experience when using U-render is creating a VJ pack. I can design something, render it the same day and post it on social media. This whole process has made it a lot of fun to be able to do something new every day and have the results really fast.
What is the single biggest reason you would recommend U-Render?
Angelo: Save time! If you can reach the look and feel that you want with U-Render then the sky is the limit. You can render many more sequences and have more to work with in post.
